New York Fashion Week Spring '09
Summary: Very little great comes out of Buffalo, NY. Yes, there is the chicken wing, Bison Chip Dip, Ani DeFranco and Goo Goo Dolls. There is also designer Adam Lippes (I can claim this as I too hail from the snowy area). Even though Lippes had to move his show inside the Victorian Gothic Church at the Seminary Garden in Chelsea at the last minute, (due to Hanna)...I can't think of a better venue to hold a show. And trust me, I have been to many around New York, this was special. Lippes was inspired by MoMA's color-chart exhibit for his Spring '09 collection. That would explain the profusion of bubble gum colors to strut down the catwalk.
The pieces I enjoyed the most were those that were simple (less the shocking colors) and the cocktail shift dress made of what appeared to be gum balls (not good for sitting however). He lost me with the silk running shorts and suspenders, but then again, if I were 25 I would probably sport the entire line. It was fun, it was light and it will probably to very well this Spring.
Color Palette: white, cream, nude, iris, cerulean, amber, shocking pink, turquoise, navy, slate, black
Textures & Details: silk, silk georgette, silk cotton, silk charmeuse, organza, cotton poplin, cotton sateen, linen, textured linen/viscose, jersey, denim, bamboo cashmere, lace, ombre, paillettes, hand-knit, raffia tweed, suspenders, silk running shorts, patent wrap sandals and wedges.
Key Looks: black and white paillette silk georgette shirt dress with a slate and white ombre striped silk cotton organza skirt; shocking pink georgette romper; kaleidoscope embroidered dress; cerulean silk chiffon laced back dress; amber silk georgette dress with 'lucite shapes' embroidery; amber silk georgette long shirt dress.
